Rebecca MacTaggart
Rebecca is a dedicated disability rights and community advocate with a career rooted in direct support, systems navigation, and policy change. She currently serves as the Community Engagement Specialist at CLASS (Community Living and Support Services), where she connects people with disabilities and their families to resources, education, and community-based supports that promote independence and inclusion.
Rebecca brings a strong foundation in hands-on support, having worked as a paraprofessional and Behavioral Health Technician, supporting individuals with disabilities and behavioral health needs in educational and community settings. These early roles shaped her person-centered approach and continue to inform her advocacy work today. It also created the foundation for how to advocate for her son who sustained a spinal cord injury at 15.
With extensive experience in systemic and policy-level change, Rebecca serves as Advocacy Coordinator and Peer Mentor for the United Spinal Association of Pittsburgh chapter and previously held the role of Government Relations Manager for the national United Spinal Association. In these roles, she has worked on legislation, coalition-building, and grassroots advocacy efforts focused on access to care, caregiving supports, and community living.
Rebecca also serves on several advisory and governing boards that influence disability and accessibility policy, including the Alliance for Access to Assets, Kessler Foundation Caregiver Advisory Board, and the Accessibility Advisory Board for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. Across these roles, she works to ensure that policies and systems are informed by lived experience and reflect the real needs of people with disabilities and their families.
Rebecca is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for The PEAL Center, where she brings a deep commitment to family empowerment, inclusive education, and meaningful community engagement.
