Workshop 4 – Bridging the Gaps: Empowering Families of Children with Medically Complex Needs
Families of children with medically complex needs face significant disparities in accessing healthcare. This presentation aims to deepen understanding of their unique challenges, provide families with practical strategies for fostering collaboration with their child’s healthcare team, and highlight the importance of care mapping and care plans. Optimizing communication among all members of the care team is emphasized as a critical factor in ensuring coordinated, effective care. The presentation is enriched with personal stories from the presenter’s own journey raising a daughter with medically complex needs and an undiagnosed genetic condition, offering a powerful, lived-experience perspective.
