Bilingual Family Resource Specialist – 30+ hours/week

The PEAL Center is hiring a 30+ hours/week Bilingual Family Resource Specialist. This position is for someone with familiarity of special education law, especially IDEA and PA Chapter 14, and personal experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with disabilities or complex healthcare needs.

This role requires both professional knowledge and lived experience. We are looking for someone who understands the system and has used it as a parent or caregiver. Families often need support from someone who can explain the system clearly and understands their experience.

A main part of this role is helping families understand their rights and options under special education law, especially IDEA and Chapter 14.

What you will do:

  • Provide clear and accurate information about special education, with familiarity of IDEA and PA Chapter 14, to help families understand their rights and options
  • Help families understand their rights, the IEP process, and available services
  • Use your experience as a parent or caregiver to support families
  • Communicate with families in English and Spanish
  • Help families address challenges and make informed decisions
  • Share resources, follow up with families, and keep organized records
  • Provide trainings, workshops, and community outreach
  • Build relationships with schools and community partners
  • Stay informed about changes in special education law and policy

What we are looking for:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, including speaking, reading, and writing
  • Knowledge of special education law, especially IDEA and PA Chapter 14
  • Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with disabilities or complex needs
  • Ability to explain information in a clear and simple way
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with families from different backgrounds
  • Basic technology skills, including Microsoft Office and databases
  • Strong organization and attention to detail

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least two years of related experience
  • Experience working with families, education, or community services
  • Ability to travel within Pennsylvania as needed
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance if travel is required
  • Required clearances (Act 33, Act 34, FBI) or willingness to obtain them
