Family Resource Specialist (Remote) 20-25 Hours
The PEAL Center is hiring a part-time Family Resource Specialist to join our team. This role is rooted in partnership with families, and first and foremost, we are looking for a parent or caregiver of a child with disabilities and or complex healthcare needs.
In this role, we believe lived experience matters. The insight and perspective that come from navigating systems as a parent are not just valuable, they are essential. We are looking for someone who can draw on that experience to connect with families, share information in a way that makes sense, and stand alongside parents and caregivers as they make decisions for their children.
We are also looking for someone who values inclusive education and believes all children should have the opportunity to learn, belong, and thrive alongside their peers.
You will support families of children with disabilities by providing clear, unbiased information about special education, rights, and available options. A big part of this role is helping families make sense of complex systems, think through challenges, and find a path forward that works for them and their child.
This position may be fully remote or hybrid with time in our Philadelphia or Pittsburgh office.
What You Will Do
- Provide families with accurate, accessible information about special education rights, services, and supports.
- Offer practical strategies and problem-solving support to help families navigate challenges.
- Share resources, follow up with families, and maintain organized documentation.
- Represent PEAL through trainings, workshops, and community outreach.
- Stay current on laws, policies, and best practices related to children with disabilities.
- Build relationships with schools, community organizations, and partners throughout the region.
What We Are Looking For
- Knowledge of or experience with special education systems and laws, including IDEA.
- Strong communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with families using a strengths-based approach.
- A commitment to inclusive education and equitable access for all children and families.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Comfort using technology, including Microsoft Office and databases.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of related experience.
- Experience supporting families or working in education, community services, advocacy, or a related field.
- Ability to travel throughout Pennsylvania as needed.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance if travel is required.
- Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearances, or the ability to obtain them within one month of employment.
