About Lisa Lightner
In the mid-2000s, Lisa Lightner and her husband welcomed their first child. From the moment of delivery, Lisa sensed that something was “off,” but it was not until a few months later that their son was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder.
Although that period of her life remains a blur, Lisa has come to appreciate how it shaped her journey. Today, she is one of the nation’s leading advocates for special education, as well as an author and mother.
Lisa has been advocating for families since 2010 and created A Day in Our Shoes to help parents navigate the Individualized Education Program and Section 504 processes.
